ADVENT STUDY
Low: An Honest Advent Devotional
Amidst the bright lights and wrappings of a sentimentally saturated Christmas season, we tend to forget about the gritty, messy reality of the Advent story as it was experienced 2,000 years ago. In this honest Advent devotional, we are reminded that God came to meet us in the low places of our lives, and that Jesus continues to come low this Advent season. When we plant our feet firmly in the dirt of everyday life, we see Jesus meeting us in the low places. As we walk the road of Advent, Jesus reminds us the invitation is not to escape this world to an elevated Heaven somewhere else, but to bring Heaven down. “God with us” is Jesus, getting low. You can get the devotional book from Pastor Alka, at a discounted price of $4, thanks to a generous donation of a Broadway member. Facebook event here.

LEAP OF FAITH
Northbrook UMC (1190 Western Ave, Northbrook, IL 60062).
R.S.V.P.: David Braden & Sue Laurie, CoFacilitators.
The purpose of this gathering is to bring together local churches and communities in the Northern Illinois Annual Conference to consider going through an official discernment process—modeled on the process developed in the New England Annual Conference—to determine whether they desire to remain in or leave the denomination. We do not know what the future holds for the UMC, but times such as these call for a Leap of Faith. More information is available on the flyer.
UPCOMING CHURCH MEETING
This meeting is open to the congregation.
18 December 2019; 7pm
BLUE CHRISTMAS SERVICE
Blue? Yes, blue as in the blues...As in “I am feeling blue.” Not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. Dealing with life circumstances makes parties and joviality painful for many people. If this describes you, join us for a Blue Christmas Service on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00pm. We hope to create sacred space for people living through difficult times to participate in a worship service that is accepting where folks are, and holding out hope. Facebook event here.
LOOKING AHEAD
GETTING TO BROADWAY CHURCH
We have a small parking lot off of Buckingham to the rear of the church that you are welcome to use when attending church functions. There is also metered parking and street parking nearby, but please note permit parking restrictions. The 36 bus stops near our front door, and we are about a 10-15 minute walk from either the Belmont or Addison el stations. You can get driving directions or public transportation options here. Our building is accessible at both entrances and we have a lift to our basement area. Other questions? Please feel free to contact us at 773-348-3679 or by email!

COMMUNITY & CONNECTION SUNDAY
On the first Sunday of every month, Communion and Community Sunday, Broadway celebrates God’s expansive welcome with a communion service, welcoming all to God’s table. We also use this opportunity to do some special celebrations of the Broadway community—celebrating birthdays for the upcoming month and giving a special welcome to visiting friends and family. We will continue to celebrate visitors every Sunday, but we especially encourage the Broadway congregation to use Communion and Community Sundays as a chance to issue a special invitation to friends and family to join us in celebrating that we are all beloved children of God.
