BROADWAY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

OUR MINISTRIES

SPIRITUAL FORMATION / EDUCATION

We’ve discovered that, once we have been changed by God’s love for us, we want to learn more about who God is and how we are invited to be a part of God’s plan for justice in the world. We believe that process of learning is spiritual formation (some might call it Christian education, but we’ve found that learning is paired with living, so it goes beyond simply gaining knowledge).  Because our believing affects our living, we are constantly on the journey of examining what we believe. Our community life is made up of discussion where we find that truth, confessing where we doubt, and affirming how we feel part of the story of God’s liberating love.

BROADWAY CHOIR

The Broadway United Methodist Choir is a dynamic opportunity for anyone who loves to sing to contribute to ministry. The choir welcomes singers of all experience levels, and we pursue a diverse repertoire. The Choir rehearses Thursday evenings at 7pm & Sunday mornings at 10:00am and sings at the 11am service (September-June).

SOWERS TO ALL THE WORLD

"Sowers" is the name given our team that has oversight for outreach efforts (historically called "mission;" we've reclaimed the ministry of being present to others in need, offering outreach that helps to make the world a more just and equitable place).

We meet throughout the year to consider other hands -- on projects (food drives, 5K walks for a purpose, etc.) as well as to determine the "Mission Minutes" of the calendar year -- a way that we give financially to projects beyond the walls of Broadway and even Chicago, as we hope to make a small contribution to justice nationally and globally.

YOUTH LOUNGE

Youth Lounge ended regular operations after the May 25, 2019 gathering. If you have any questions, please contact Jon.

ANTI-RACIST WHITE CAUCUS (ARWC)

As we lament the many hurts of our world, we pray for justice and peace, and most importantly, we call on one another to act. We are witnesses to heinous injustices in our nation, and we are faced with a simple choice: to act or to look away. It's hard to know just what to do when we are overwhelmed by media telling conflicting stories, by a system that sets up our children of color for failure, by nations at war. One thing we can do, however, is gather together and keep the conversation going. As we bring our sadness and anger, we hope to create a space to express our feelings and to help us use our anger for good.

PEOPLE OF COLOR DISCUSSION GROUP (POC)

Mission Statement: We are a spiritually alive, God-centered community of BUMC that welcomes and  honors those who identify as POC. We recognize with intention the experiences, identities, and strengths of our multiethnic, multicultural and multiracial membership. We accomplish our mission through the following actions: communication, respect, justice education, healing laughter collaboration with ARWC, appreciation and affirmation, sharing our gifts within and beyond the walls of Broadway church, sharing our culture, events and gatherings that celebrate our cultures.

EMPOWERING ALL IN MINISTRY

Our ministry teams document is not static: it is amended throughout the year as we seek to involve every member in ministry.

God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as God desired. If they were all one member, where would the body be? But now there are many members, but one body.  ~ 1 Corinthians 12:15-21
