Alka's Angle April 16, 2021

Dear Broadway Family,

It seems like I have not talked to you in a while and there is so much pent up that needs to be shared and discussed -- so much in our world that needs a response to. We woke up this morning to yet another mass shooting, this time in Indianapolis.

And, this on the heels of watching the video of 13 year old Adam Toledo shot by police even as he had his hands raised up in surrender, and, while the pain of yet another killing of an African American young man is fresh on our minds.

And the fact that 20-year-old Daunte Wright was shot not too far from where Derek Chavin’s (cop that killed George Floyd) trial is underway.

What is happening in our world? How has so much hatred been unleashed in our communities? Why is this acceptable? I don’t have answers to any of this, and, I know that we need to do something. We cannot sit in silence. So,

  • I am planning a prayer vigil on Sunday at 6:30pm in the church yard. Please share it with your family and friends -- if they can physically be present, we would love to have them, if not they can join the event on fb live.

  • I invite you to call and put pressure on our elected officials and public servants to act legislatively so we can create policies that will help our communities with #guncontrol. You can go here to tell your senators to pass background check legislation.
  • You can donate to the work of ‘Everytown for Gun Safety” by clicking here, or to “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America” by clicking here.
  • You can volunteer with “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America” by clicking here, and with ‘Everytown for Gun Safety” by clicking here.

Beloveds, let us all do what we can to work towards stopping these acts of violence against other humans, and to have better policies for gun possession. Let us also do all we can to extend care and support for folks we encounter. We do not know what the other person is carrying in their hearts, but we can offer a smile to everyone we see.

Let us continue to create a brave space where everyone can claim identity as a beloved child of God. And remember, I am always your partner in this work of justice!
