Dear Broadway Community,
It is Friday! Good Friday, as we know it, in the Christian calendar. We call it good because it commemorates the day Jesus was crucified, and view it as a crucial act ‘necessary’ for the salvation of humanity. Whether this is your theological grounding or not, this day does not mark the end- because we have EASTER! We are Easter people! We know the rest of the story! We remember the pain and the agony that Jesus suffered through, but we know Sunday is coming!
And I invite you to Sunday! Easter Sunday! The day that reminds us that death does not have control over us! As humans we will experience death of our physical body but we will live eternally with the creator!
This Sunday we will celebrate that promise! We will be reminded that God created us and loves us abundantly. This Sunday we will be reminded that God calls us by our name- just like Jesus called Mary by her name beside the empty tomb and that turned Mary’s grief into joy! Until then Mary was busy with her pain and doing what was necessary!
Beloveds- I pray that, in the busyness of all that needs to be done, we will hear God calling our name- with unconditional love and unquenching hope- hope that reminds us that today might be Friday but Sunday is coming!
This Sunday- join me to celebrate HOPE and LIFE and LOVE. We will start at the lake for our SONrise service @ 6am at the Chevron sculpture by the Diversey Driving Range and Bacino’s Italian Grill (248 W Diversey Pkwy, Chicago, IL 60657).
Use the QR code if you are walking and the address given above if you plan on driving. You can also call/text Pastor Alka at 815 474 6721. If it rains we will meet at church.
EASTER WORSHIP service will be @ 11am at church reminding us that God is always around us, calling us beloveds, and if we slow down we might just see signs of resurrection all around us: peeking through the earth.
And while we wait: sitting in the somberness of “Good Friday” and the stillness of “Quiet Saturday” I share with you a poem titled ‘this moment matters’ to read between now and Sunday.
Beloveds, I hope to see you Sunday to sing Alleluias with you, to proclaim the good news of resurrection with you and to celebrate the hope that is ours in Christ Jesus! May you be blessed and may we all be a blessing to all we meet. I look forward to seeing you at church.
