Alka's Angle April 19, 2024

Dear Broadway Community,

I want to start with some gratitude first: to the folk who have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to keep this building safe and organized and its ministries running smoothly.

Sylvia is a friend of Broadway church, who lives miles away but supports us regularly.  She decided that our food pantry needed a face-lift, and after discussing it with me, hired someone to paint it. I mentioned at church last week that Ellie and Robin have bene helping me clean/repair and organize around the church. A new worshipper Victor recently volunteered to join the media team and is now training with our other volunteers. Julia volunteered to plant tulips and lilies from Easter, around the building. These are some of the folx doing the work, silently and behind the scenes and there are many like that and I am grateful to all of you for the work you do. If you drive to church, you my want to take a peek at the northwest corner of the parking lot. Tony is a neighbor who has cleaned that area and planted flowers there. So much I am grateful for!

I am also grateful for our green team who invited us to become Styrofoam FREE! We are moving toward it and ask that you please refrain from bringing/donating Styrofoam supplies and do the same at home as well. As I shared last week, according to Washington University, Styrofoam takes about 500 years to decompose; and cannot be recycled.

I am grateful for your prayerful support to Ronnie, me and other delegates that are heading to General Conference, a meeting of about 1000 elected United Methodists from all around the world- to discuss and decide on the policies and polity of our denomination. We have shared this prayer calendar with you, and here is another one offered by the Upper room. We covet your prayers- not only for us, who are directly connected with Broadway UMC, but for all the delegates, the organizers and all who are involved whether on stage or off stage. And, if any of you would like, you can follow the livestream of the proceedings here,  or email to join Pastor Jennifer Stevens and watch live-streaming at Holy Covenant Church with her.

Beloveds, thank you again for always showing up in the best way you can, so together we can continue to be the church that God has called us to be. Be blessed, and be a blessing to all you meet, and I look forward to seeing you all at church.
