"Above all, let us continue to pray for one another. Prayer has power! Let us pray for the first responders, and the medical professionals, the grocery store workers, and those making deliveries for us. Let us also pray for strength and patience in this time of uncertainty and anxiety."

Dear Broadway Community,

I hope and pray you all are staying home and doing all you can to stay well and stay safe. As you may have heard our governor has extended the ‘stay at home’ order till the end of the month, so even though we have not heard anything about that from our Mayor or our Bishop (we are under the original ‘stay at home orders till April 7th ), we have extended our building closure indefinitely.

And, let us remember that even though our building is closed -- our church is very much active and connected. Here are a few ways we have continued to stay connected with our community, and we invite you to join us at any of these events:

  • We worship every Sunday at 11:00 am by Zoom. Join online by using this link https://zoom.us/j/489148569, or join by phone by calling 312-626-6799 then when prompted, type this meeting ID: 489 148 569. Note that we start at 10:30 am to give time to folx to visit and to troubleshoot for anyone having difficulties with logging in.
  • Young adults (only) meet on Mondays at 6:30 pm. Join online by using this link https://zoom.us/j/334980043, or join by phone by calling 312-626-6799 then when prompted, type this meeting ID: 334 980 043.

We have also been working on creating a phone tree to make sure all our community members relate to a least one other person in the Broadway community. We are also collecting emergency contact information -- so please share that information with me by emailing me at pastoralkalyall@gmail.com. I have been trying to send daily messages to us on Facebook, so if you are not connected with us by social media -- I invite you to like https://www.facebook.com/ChicagoBUMC and also check out our website for all updated information. You may also want to send an email to our office to receive our weekly e-news (or sign up here). If there is any other way we can continue to strengthen this connection, please let me know.

Beloveds, I know this is a new way of living for all of us, so let us make sure we take good care of ourselves. Please be sure to:

  • Eat as healthy foods as we can,
  • Stay as physically active as we can,
  • Get regular sleep and rest as best as we can,
  • Maintain a sense of structure and routine in our daily life, and
  • Stay socially connected with friends and family, while maintaining physical distance.

Above all, let us continue to pray for one another. Prayer has power! Let us pray for the first responders, and the medical professionals, the grocery store workers, and those making deliveries for us. Let us also pray for strength and patience in this time of uncertainty and anxiety.

Let us continue to move forward -- doing all we can to continue to flatten the curve. God bless you and I hope to see you at church. May God give all of us the strength we need for each day to do the work that we are called to do. And remember, I am always your partner in justice.
