Alka's Angle August 25, 2023

Dear Broadway Family,

I am trusting you all survived the excessive heat these past couple days, and like me, are grateful for the 70 degree temperatures again! Speaking of grateful, there are several things I am grateful for and I want to share and celebrate them with you-

  • It is about 730am when I am writing this sitting in the front room, watching all the kids walking, running, biking or riding their scooters to school with their backpacks on their backs and I am reminded of the 50 kids who will have a new bag and some basic school supplies because of the generosity of this community and my heart feels grateful to Julia Sibley, Larry Sommers and Paula Roderick, who organized all your generous donations and delivered them to Nettlehorst, St. Mary of the Lake Catholic parish (to share with migrant families) and Centro Romero

  • Throughout summer we have been enjoying our worship outside once a month, and I am filled with gratitude for Jon Fallon who always find a way to spread a feast for us on those Sundays. Our last outside worship will be on Sunday, September 17th and I hope you will not miss it!
  • With the start of the school year-we are also getting ready to begin children’s Sunday School at church, starting the first Sunday of September, September 3rd, and I am grateful to Lee Rollins and Woo Evans who have graciously volunteered to take on this responsibility for this school year.
  • I am thankful to John Eifler who connected us to a wonderful service who helped us boost our internet service in a way that our building partners now have full access to internet with their own login,
  • I am thankful to Kathleen Sewall, Rob Denler and Whitney Badoer, who have joined the media team, helping Rebecca, Woo and Dylan who have seamlessly managed it throughout the pandemic,
  • I am grateful to Rev. Lou Pence, Lee Rollins and Rev. Miranda Denler, who regularly join me on the preaching schedule, and finally
  • I celebrate the generosity of all who contributed towards the repair of our organ,

Friends, please take a minute and thank these persons and many others who I may have missed naming, who keep our church functioning with minimal resources, with grace. I am grateful to all of you for your faithful service to God through Broadway UM Church.

I also want to share that-

  • Childrens Sunday School starts Sunday, September 3rd after worship,
  • Adult Bible Study resumes on zoom on Wednesdays at 7pm, starting September 6th.
  • I will be on vacation most of September visiting family in India.
  • By the end of September, we will start a new sermon series on the “7 Deadly Sins.” Thanks to Lee Rollins who challenged us, and yes- we preachers are looking forward to it.
  • We will have a “Blessing of Pets” on Sunday October 8th @ 2pm. We will have information available for you next week, to share with friends and in your buildings.

That’s it for now friends! I am blessed to a part of this community and to witness to the love of God through this congregation. Remember that we are God’s beloveds, and we must continue to do our best, be our best and do all we can to create a braver and safer place for all God’s people.

Be blessed beloveds, and I look forward to seeing you in church.
