Dear Broadway Community,
I am sharing only a section of the message that showed up in my inbox this morning from another Social Action organization that is part of the United Methodist Church, and takes action on issues of peace, poverty and people’s rights within the church and the world.
The full image will be shared further in the enews, but I wanted to celebrate this message as a reminder to all of us- that love liberates and transforms! It is love that calls us to action, and it is love that empowers us to be bold! Our faith calls us to always act on the side of justice, even if it sometimes causes small inconveniences. Those interruptions make us strong, patient and resilient in life.
This month we have been celebrating stories of persons of Black and African American heritage who have made an impact in the world, on whose shoulders we stand today and who continue to work hard to make this world a better place by their actions and leadership. Another way we can celebrate and support our Black and African American siblings is by supporting their businesses. Here is a list of black owned businesses and restaurants in Chicago.
As we have said before, Black History, like any other history, needs to be celebrated everyday, so hopefully we will feel inspired to continue to decentralize whiteness and support black and brown owned business and restaurants. For social actions, Indivisible Chicago, Illinois Coaltion for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and Equality Illinois are places that regularly organize actions around us, that we can participate in. You can register here to participate in the action supporting healthcare for our trans siblings!
Beloveds, I also want to remind us that amidst all of these movements and actions, we need to stay grounded and not let anything get to us in a way that paralyses us from caring for ourselves and those around us- so let us all be intentional to check on one another, support one another, remind each other often that we are beloveds, we are precious, that all of us have a right to live and be who we are called to be.
And remember that we are resilient people who will continue to do our best to move forward with courage, compassion, and conviction.
God bless you all and I will see you at church!
