Dear Broadway Community,
United Methodists and faith partners from across the country will gather in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, for Faithful Resistance: A Public Witness for Immigrant Justice to offer a peaceful public witness grounded in prayerful worship, moral courage, and solidarity with immigrant communities. “We originally anticipated approximately 120 people to attend in-person, but to see us at ten-fold is so encouraging; a sign of what with God’s help we can do together as we stand for immigrant justice.” says Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño, Convenor of the United Methodist Immigration Task Force.
The event will begin at 10:00 am ET with a prayer vigil and worship service at Capitol Hill United Methodist Church to pray for immigrants suffering in the U.S. due to unjust treatment, for those who courageously stand with them, and for God’s blessing for this and every effort that seeks justice for immigrants.
Following that, a prayerful procession will move to the Upper Senate Park where leaders will call for humane treatment of our immigrant siblings.
I am going to participate in this action along with a few of my clergy colleagues and seek your prayerful support. If anyone desires to follow, they can register for the livestream.
Beloveds, for me, this action aligns with our Lenten journey which calls us to focus on the ‘foundational concepts of Jesus’ life and ministry, grounding us and challenging us to take action in a world desperate to hear, see, and taste the good news, that is loves and welcome and acceptance.
For the Lenten season we have also created a PRAYER FENCE, where church and community members are invited to write a prayer on a heart or fabric and tie it to the fence.
Beloveds, I hope you will join us for all these services as we find and focus on the good news of Jesus Christ, and following that example, be helpful and compassionate towards people around us. May we continue to find joy amid challenges and do all we can to leave a better and peaceful world for our children and all future generations.
Be well beloveds, and I hope to see you in church soon,
