Dear Broadway Family,
I am writing to you from the conference floor, during the breaks. I wanted to give you an accurate and current glimpse of the moment. If you have been following the special called General Conference, you know the pain that is currently being inflicted on our siblings in ministry, and allies. Please know that while the institution continues to do harm, and while it looks like we may not have the church we love, much longer, I want to invite us to hold steady and hold one another in the best care that we can offer each other. Also, please know that while we may not have the church as we have known it for a while, God is not done with any of this yet! God did not create denominations! Denominations are our way of dividing people based on our understanding of God’s love and our interpretations of the Bible.
Our delegation spoke with our Bishop briefly this morning. She invited us to pray for NOTHING to happen this morning! I don’t really know if I am there right now! But, I know that means maintaining the status quo for now!
People of love, I invite you to be loving towards yourselves and caring towards one another. I urge you to continue to hold your delegation, specially the few LGBTQIA delegates, and all the allies in your prayer! We believe in a God of miracles! There is so much pain and emotion here in this space right now! I a unable to say more except ask you to hold on to each other, hold the church in prayer and invoke God’s Spirit in this space.
I will see you all on Sunday and we will continue to be the church where all are welcome! Prayerfully, I remain your partner in justice.
