Dear Broadway Community,
Last week I shared with you an article by Bishop Forrest Stith, a United Methodist Bishop, titled, “Why We Need a Black History Month- A Perspective” as we celebrate the story of our Black and African American siblings. Beloveds, whatever our heritage, culture, or racial background, the story of our Black siblings is also our story, and therefore it is important that we know, learn and celebrate the story.
The General Commission on Religion and Race has shared 29 Ways We Can Celebrate this story, as a church and also as individuals. After reading this article, if you wish to invite us to an activity, please let me know.
This month we will also enter into the Lenten season. This Lenten season, we will use a series prepared by “A Sanctified Art,” and focus on the ‘foundational concepts of Jesus’ life and ministry. What makes good news good? Can we trust that the good news is truly good, even when it challenges us? The season begins with Ash Wednesday on February 18th. We will have a joint service with Holy Covenant UMC, at 6:00 pm, at their location. Details for Ash Wednesday, and the season is shared in this newsletter, in the bulletin and on our social platforms.
Beloveds, may we continue to be helpful and compassionate towards people around us, remembering that everyone is dealing with their own challenges. May we continue to be joyful in the midst of challenges. May we continue to walk boldly towards justice, support communities through mutual aid, and do all we can to leave a better and peaceful world for our children and all future generations.
Be well beloveds, and I hope to see you in church soon,
