Dear Broadway Family,
This is a busy weekend in Lakeview and at Broadway! But before we get into that- in case you didn’t notice the White House recently announced a series of actions to protect our LGBTQIA+ siblings, including a new appointed position within the Department of Education specifically to combat book-banning. Take a moment and join the American Library Association to thank President Biden for fighting the Book Ban.
And now here are all the events happening here this week, that we are participating in or affect us-
The coming week, also marks the anniversary of the day when many African Americans learned for the first time that slavery had been abolished. The emancipation proclamation was signed in 1863 but Texas surrendered to the Union on June 2, 1865. Gordon Granger came to Galveston, TX on June 19, 1865 and issued the proclamation. In 2021, President Biden declared it a public holiday and to honor the day, several Black business owners will set up a market at Gallagher Way in Wrigley Field on Saturday, June 17th. Feel free to join the fun and click here if you wish to know more.
Also remember-
Beloveds, as people of God, we are called to ‘seek justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God’ always. May we continue to strive to do our best, be our best and do all we can to leave a livable world for the generations to come, and a safer place for
our generations.
Be blessed beloveds, and I look forward to seeing you in church.
