Dear Broadway Family,
We had a wonderful time of food and fellowship at Broadway’s “Worship in the Yard” last Sunday. Jon prepared an amazing spread and there were about 30 people to enjoy the meal. And even though Chuck could not be with us, we manifested his spirit of welcome by inviting several guests who were passing by. The weather was beautiful also. Grateful to all who helped, participated and celebrated with us.
The Annual Adopt and Shop event was also very successful. Thanks to Tami for being the fearless welcome team and to Richard and his husband Angelo for heling us pack up at the end.
This Sunday is PRIDE parade and we will be marching in the parade with more than 40 other congregations. We will have a shorter worship service and then head to the parade. We hope you will be able to join us.
Folks we participate in this march every year- not because we enjoy walking 3 miles in 80 degree weather, or the attention we get, which we get a lot of, or to guilt those who are not walking; we walk to out and proud proclaim that there are churches, pastors and congregations that are affirming and welcoming and supportive of those whose gender, gender expression, identity and orientation is different from ours. We walk to share the love of God with the folk whom the church has harmed and has forced them out of church buildings! And like anything else- as pastors we can do our bit but unless laypersons join in the work- nothing can be successful. Please make an effort to join us on Sunday. And if you do, dress accordingly when you come to church. If you are NOT coming to church but plan to join us in the parade- remember we (Coalition of Welcoming Churches) are # 67 in the lineup which means we will be around 4498-4442 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60640 (the intersection of W. Sunnyside and N. Sheridan) near the Dollar Tree Store.
Also remember-
Beloveds, as people of God, we are called to ‘show up’ against every injustice that we see around us. May we continue to strive to do our best, be our best and do all we can to create a safer place for all God’s people.
Be blessed beloveds, and I look forward to seeing you in church.
