Alka's Angle June 26, 2021

Dear Broadway Family,

A friend shared this story with me some time ago:

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside.

"That laundry is not very clean," she said. "She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."

Her husband looked on but remained silent.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband, "Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this..."

The husband said, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows."

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

Isn’t that the truth! "What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look.” Sometimes what we perceive to be the truth is not even close to it.

Beloveds, in a time like this, when patience is running low, people are vulnerable and emotions are raw -- for any number of reasons, it is easy for us to see or even experience something and make our own interpretations and presumptions. In times like such, I invite us to pause, take a deep breath and remind ourselves to not place our own presumption to the situation. Perhaps a conversation could clear things up for us.

Beloved -- we need more conversations, not conflicts. Let us be intentional in our efforts to understand each other and welcome one another to fellowship with Christ, and remember, I am always your partner in this work of justice! I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday!
