Dear Broadway Community,
You know I was out of the office last week, attending the Board meeting of the United Methodist Church’s General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR) As a board we have committed to meeting in places where we can also learn about the stories of the people who have lived on these lands, and the role of church in the suffering of people. As a result I have been privileged to visit the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington DC, Cherokee National Museum in Oklahoma, and the Apartheid Museum in South Africa, among many others.
This month we met in Denver Colorado and visited the History Colorado Center, which houses the Sand Creek Massacre: The Betrayal that Changed Cheyenne and Arapaho People Forever exhibit.
Visiting these places always reminds me of two things-
I am sure, like mine, your intention always is to be on the side of the people who work towards making life livable for others. Which is also why using our right to vote is important now than ever before- even if it feels as if our voice will not be heard in a sea of screaming folk. So, please use this privilege on Tuesday, March 17th; vote and make your voice heard.
A few more reminders:
Beloveds, amidst all these movements and actions, let us not forget to care for ourselves and to stay grounded, so nothing gets to us in a way that paralyses us from caring for ourselves and those around us.
Let us remain intentional in checking on one another, reminding each other that we are beloveds of the one who created us. Let us keep moving forward with courage, compassion, and conviction.
God bless you all and I will see you at church!
