Alka's Angle March 15, 2024

Dear Broadway Community,

As we approach Easter, the celebration of life over death,  and good over evil, I share with you the message of our UM Bishops who have come together to demand for “an immediate and permanent cease-fire in the conflict between Hamas and Israel in Gaza and pledge our prayers and commitment to work for a durable peace for Israelis, Palestinians…”   You can click here to read more.

More than 30,000 innocent people have been killed in this genocide in Palestine and we should not sit silent. Lyd (also known as Al-Lyd or Lydda), one of the largest, oldest cities in historic Palestine, is located northwest of occupied Jerusalem and southeast of occupied Yaffa (referred to in colonial terms as “Tel Aviv”).

On Wednesday, March 27th at 11am central Eyewitness Palestine invites us for a Live from Lyd webinar,  to virtually travel around Lyd on a custom tour of the city and to hear from Lyd residents about the resilience and struggles they face in the community.

We need to also continue to contact our elected officials calling for a Ceasefire! This will be the best way for us to prepare to celebrate good over evil.

And let us not forget- the coming week we will have primary elections. Let us not forget to use our civic right to vote, and elect leaders who have the interest of people in mind. Another opportunity for us to make a positive change in our community is by voting YES on the “Real Estate Transfer Tax.” It is on the last page of the ballot so please don’t miss it and help the 60,000+ homeless people in the city of Chicago. This will not affect your taxes and won’t affect you unless you are looking to buy a building worth a million or more.

Beloveds, let us continue to follow Jesus who always addressed injustices, exorcised evil from communities and shared love with all people. Let us continue to commit ourselves to sharing the love of God with all people to the best of our ability, and become agents of hope in this world.

Beloveds, may we be blessed, and be a blessing to all we meet, and I look forward to seeing you all at church.
