Alka's Angle May 7, 2021

Dear Broadway Family,

Re-Imagine! That seems to have been the word for most of the world these past 12 months or so -- as we all have been learning to do things differently, because of the pandemic.

Interestingly, it even moved us to make changes that we never desired to make or thought we could.

  • Who would have ever imagined that our buildings would be completely shut down and we could still be church!
  • Having one worship service was not considered as a choice, but we have been worshipping as one family since March 2020.
  • We never imagined wearing masks and not eating out or visiting family and friends, and while this has been a difficult adjustment, we have made it and folk have been very creative with their masks -- they now come with messages and other expressive artwork.
  • Even corporations learned that they didn’t need big buildings and have either completely left buildings or have consolidated their offices.
  • Many of us who had made ourselves so busy that we didn’t even know how to slow down have now been enjoying the slower pace.

We have re-imagined our lives, our work, and our spaces. This, and the current age of our parsonage has inspired us to look into the possibility of re-imagining our property! And we want to include you in this process -- so we invite you to fill out this survey. How do you imagine this will look like? What will it be? What could it be? What is needed most in our community that we can provide? Please answer honestly and imagine extravagantly. Allow nothing to get in the way of your imagination for how could we best be the church in this neighborhood. Also know -- we are only at this re-imagining stage. We have no other plans yet! The Ministry Advocates and I look forward to your ideas!

And, a reminder that Lakeview Presbyterian Church and us (Broadway UMC) will hold 30 minute prayer vigils on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays @ 6:00pm hosting on alternate Wednesdays.

We will be hosting on May 12th. We will meet in the church yard and will livestream on facebook for anyone who desires to join us virtually.

We will continue to hold these prayer vigils until further notice.

Beloveds, many of us have been vaccinated fully, and even though the viral pandemic seems to be not as deadly as it was, we know we are not fully safe or free from it. We know we have to continue to be vigilant, and do all we can to stay safe and keep everyone safe. And, while the viral pandemic seems to be losing its grip on our lives, the racial pandemic continues to be on a rise. And just as we have learned how to protect ourselves and our loved ones from this virus, we need to continue to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the anti black and brown ideology. And, we need to stand against all such acts of violence, extend care and support for folks who might be targeted, do all we can to make this world a better place for all persons, specially our black and brown siblings.

And remember, I am always your partner in this work of justice! I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday!
