Alka's Angle Novmber 22, 2024

Dear Broadway Community,

Beloveds, as we enter the last days of November, and we begin to experience the cold weather, our hearts somehow start to feel the gratitude for life and all it holds for us. And in this season of gratitude our hearts are more prepared to share our blessings in various ways. I am grateful to all who took the time to fill out the pledge cards this past Sunday- for those who couldn’t be present, this week you would have received a card in email. I invite you to take time to please fill them out and share your blessings with your faith family, so with your support we can further God’s work in this community and beyond.

Another way I invite you to share your blessings would be by supporting the work of ‘Kids Above All’ who continue to work towards alleviating suffering, and eradicating causes of injustice- placing the safety, well-being and education of kids above everything else. Here are some ways we can support their work in this season:

  • Donate new, unwrapped toys, games or books for children ages 0-24.
  • Order from their Target or Amazon list.
  • Volunteer in the Toy Room by contacting Catherine @ cinserra@kidsaboveall.org or calling 847 224 2870 to reserve your time. And finally,
  • Make a financial donation to help them fill their financial gap.

We are also collecting coats and other winter clothing for Heartland Human Care Services. You can bring to church new or gently used coats, boots, sweaters, blankets, hats, gloves, scarves etc. to donate for the newest members of our communities.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for

  • Hanging of the Greens on Saturday, Nov 30th from 10 am till noon, and
  • Our Annual Church Conference on Sunday, Dec 1st at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary.

Beloveds, let us remember to walk boldly towards justice and support the work of God through Broadway UMC by filling out pledge cards for 2025, so together we can continue to support our community, and do all we can to leave a better and peaceful world for our children and the future generations.

And, I hope to see you in church soon,
