Alka's Angle October 22, 2021

Dear Broadway Family,

We have had our student interns for about a month and you have even heard one of them preach already. Lee will be preaching on October 31st. I know some of you have also had a chance to meet them one on one and some of you are also on Pip’s site team. If you have not yet made a direct connection with them, I invite you to do so -- their email addresses are in the bulletin, and in the columns they write for the e-news. Take some time to know them better, share with them a little about you; make them feel welcomed because it is hard to experience community virtually. Also, let Pip know what you thought of their message this past Sunday and do the same for Lee after they preach next week.

I have been blessed by their presence with us already. Here are some of the things they are involved in, specifically, in addition to the everyday functioning of the church.

Both:

  • assist in worship planning and in leading worship on Sundays,
  • co-lead worship at Brookdale Senior Living facility on 3rd Thursdays, and take turns to assist me on 1st Thursdays of every month,
  • attend administrative meetings, as they are scheduled,
  • will preach at least once a quarter, if not more,
  • brainstorm on how to make Broadway a more vibrant and present community in Lakeview,
  • pastoral care,
  • meet with members one on one,

Lee:

  • facilitates Young Adult activities with Nicole,
  • will lead short vesper services once a month, starting next month, and

Pip:

  • teaches Sunday school, and from what I have seen, the twins are excited to go for their session every week,
  • will be offering a special event every month.

I am grateful for both of them and the gifts they bring to our community.

On a different note -- I hope to have a soft ‘opening of in-person worship’ on Sunday, November 7th. Please do sign up here if you wish to come to church in person on Sundays, starting Nov. 7th.

Beloveds, I look forward to having some of you in the sanctuary for worship and hope to have the number increase as time goes by. In the meantime -- if you are eligible for a booster, please get that, and take necessary precautions to keep yourself, and those around you, safe. If we all do our part, we can get a handle on this virus and learn to safely live with it. May God continue to bless you, and remember, I am always with you in the work of justice. I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday!
