Alka's Angle October 30, 2020

Dear Broadway family,

Well! November is almost here! Fall is upon us! Winter is just around the corner, and flu season is at its height! To complicate things, our State has started to see a resurgence of COVID.

Chicago (Region 11 on the mitigation map) has seen a 8.2% positivity rate, as of Monday. Friends, these are alarming numbers! The Governor has been updating the mitigation plans for regions that are seeing rapid increases in COVID infections. A Revised Mitigation Plan for our area goes into effect today, October 30, which has stricter rules for restaurants, bars and indoor dining (to read details on the mitigation plan click here).

Social gatherings and meetings inside of buildings are still limited to up to 25 folk or 25% of the capacity, so we will continue to allow in-person worshippers to be in the building. I am watching the news closely, and will update our worship plans, if the numbers continue to rise and/or the Governor and Mayor update their mitigation plans.

For worship -- while we will allow in-person worshippers, worship leaders will be fully on Zoom. We hope this will resolve our concerns and will offer an uninterrupted worship experience. Speaking of worship -- this Sunday (All Saints Sunday) we will honor our loved ones who have entered eternal life. The following Sunday, Nov. 8th is Stewardship Sunday. Let us begin to pray and discern all the ways God might be calling you to share your talents, resources, money and presence to further God’s work in this world, in gratitude for all that God has blessed us with. One way, I invite you to respond is by assisting us in worship.  If you are willing, please sign up here.

Friends, we have spent most of this year ‘staying at home’ keeping ourselves and everyone else safe. We may be tired and wanting this to end soon, however, I invite us to stay strong, support each other, and keep working at it. The goal is to keep the COVID infections at a place where our restrictions can be relaxed a bit, but until then, I urge you to take good care -- wash your hands, wear your mask and stay safely at home. Beloveds, let us try to stay positive.

Beloveds, I pray that you are doing well, taking good care of yourself, and doing all you can to stay positive. May God give all of us the strength we need for each day. And remember, I am always your partner, in justice and in ministry,
