Dear Broadway Family,
Morgan Stafford is a Campus Minister at the University of Memphis who has committed to live an anti-racist life. He says, “As a white man, I have learned that I’ve benefitted from racism, while people of color have been harmed. I believe that white Christians must take the lead to confront and dismantle racism. It’s our job.” The General Commission on Race and Religion reached out to Morgan and together they invite us to join them for 30 days of Antiracism during September- each day engaging in an activity that will help us to become intentional in our thinking and acting in antiracist ways.
Here is a complete calendar for us to follow. GCORR invites us to share our journey with a picture each day using #30daysantiracism.
And don’t forget that we celebrate “Family Sunday” on September 11th. Invite your friends to church and those who once worshipped at Broadway, to come back. We are also planning a school supply give away on that day, for which we continue to need donations. The updates supply list is on our Broadway Connect facebook page.
We have planned several activities for the kids on that day- facepainting, art, music, chalk art etc. And, for the accompanying adults, we will have a small silent auction! We need volunteers for that Sunday. If you can help us with anything, please sign up here.
Activities include
And remember, the Lakeview Art Festival is also on the same weekend, so the streets will be closed. Take public transport or walk to church that day. We know it will be a full afternoon and we hope you will join us for most of the activities. Above all- hold the day in prayer and make sure to invite some new friends to worship that Sunday.
Friends, I am always thankful for your faithfulness to God and your unwavering commitment to Broadway UMC. We continue to strive to make this space a safer and braver space and we always need help in doing better and being better. So, help us to be good neighbors and great allies to all people- near and far.
And remember God loves you and so do I, and I look forward to seeing you in worship.
