Alka's Angle September 23, 2022

Dear Broadway Family,

My heart is filled with gratitude for you all beautiful people who call Broadway UMC your spiritual home. And there are many reasons for it.

  • Even though our Sept 11th event was rained out- all those who attended worship in person had a great time of fellowship with the wonderful food that Jon cooked. We were able to give out several backpacks to the folk who came to the “Lakeview Art Festival” either as vendors or as visitors. We were able to give some within the community, some are going to foster kids and the rest of the supplies will be taken to the drop off location for the migrants that are arriving in our city.
  • Our partnership with “Eclectic Theater” was also a wonderful experience. We had about 20 people there, who appreciated the production, and were interested in more such events. I will continue the conversation with the theatre group to offer performances, perhaps even make it an on-going event, which benefits both of us financially and relationally.

  • Last week we had reported that our sound system was not working. Earlier this week, we tried everything we could, and were getting very concerned because our Jewish siblings were getting ready for their High Holy Days worship. Yesterday Alexia (for those of you who don’t know- she is our Office Manager) called one of her friends, who came and FIXED our problem! Our sound system is back and functioning.

Friends, I am so very grateful for each one of you- for your existence, for your generosity and for your love for this church that keeps us going even in the midst of our on-going financial challenges. I hope you feel the blessings coming back to you several fold because that is our God’s promise to you.

Let us continue to serve God through helping God’s people and donate new items for the families coming to Chicago as migrants. Donations can be dropped off at our Alderman’s office until October 1st. Baby products and hygiene products are an immediate list, and to see the full list of items being requested, please click here. The city is also looking for volunteers, so if you feel you will be able to donate some of your time, please click here. You can bring your donations to church this week. We will be happy to deliver them on your behalf or click here for a full list of drop off locations.

Oh, and I also want to thank all of you for the cards, calls, messages and gifts I have received from you on my birthday! Thank you for being you and for loving me through all my challenges and shortcomings.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate you very much, and I look forward to seeing you in church on Sunday.
