Hello Broadway!

I’ve made my way back over to the Slavic languages this time around: Slovenian. The verb vedriti means ‘to take shelter from the rain’, be it literally or figuratively.

It’s finding somewhere to rest and to wait out a storm, and then to continue on your way. Because the thing is, while it’s not ok to hide from your problems, to pretend they don’t exist, that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to take a break. It doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to take shelter and wait out the bad weather before dealing with things that already have you feeling beaten down and worn out.

The key is to make sure you continue on your journey once you’ve rested, once the storm has passed and the sky has cleared. To make sure that you dry off, get up, and keep going. We all fall and fail and get caught out in the storm of a bad mental health day, of grief or anger or any of the negative, creeping feelings that seem to hold so much power. Claiming otherwise helps nothing and no one, and it’s ok to…shelter inside and take a self care day.

Jesus calls us to act and to love, but never said we weren’t allowed to rest; he called us to make the world better, but not at the expense of ourselves. He called us to be good, to bring positive change, but never said there wouldn’t be stormy days where we need to stay inside and wait out the rain.
