Beloveds, this past Tuesday, March 31st was Transgender Day of Visibility. In this chaotic time I want to take a moment for each of us to celebrate the trans people in our lives and the ones who have paved the way. For women’s history month we celebrated Renée Richards, but there are a ton of other trans people who have done amazing things, like Mary Jones, Sylvia Rivera, and Dominick Evans. However, there are also trans folks closer to home in Chicago, many of whom do not have stable housing or access to healthcare. The Trans Liberation Collective is partnering with Brave Space Alliance to launch a COVID-19 Relief Fund for trans, non-binary, and intersex individuals. I know money is tight for many of us and we feel as if we have no more to give, but if you can, I would invite you to click this link paypal.me/TransReliefFund and donate to help out some of our most vulnerable community members. This benefits those living in the Chicagoland area, particularly the South and West sides. If you know anyone who may be in need of assistance through this program, please pass along this link to the application https://bit.ly/transrelieffund. Each individual will receive up to $200 to help combat the economic strain from this pandemic. Every little bit given makes a big difference.
Before you continue with the rest of your day, take a pause, a breath, and read this prayer from enfleshed.
A prayer for breathing
Breath in your inherent belovedness.
Breath out the lure of toxic cycles.
Breath in love that makes your heart soft.
Breath out any anger that is being misdirected.
Breath in acceptance that all cannot be immediately solved.
Breath out the need to control.
Breath in the wisdom of ancestors who labored for collective love and justice.
Breath out the temptation towards the superficial.
Breath in a breath of humility.
Breath out all that makes you shrink.
And then remember the trees.
Their giving and receiving of breath.
See them holding so much for us.
Offer a confession. And a prayer of gratitude.
And let your roots sink deep into the soil of God.
