Hello everyone,
I am back for one more school year of my internship at Broadway United Methodist Church! I'm very excited to be jumping back into this work, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to continue serving this lovely community. Over the summer, I really missed being with you. This is a very warm and welcoming congregation, and I enjoyed my time last year quite a lot!
I would like to discuss the solidarity and reproductive rights rally at Second Unitarian Church this coming Sunday. As you may know, Second Unitarian Church is my home church. My child and I are members at this church, which many people call 2U. Wren and I became members 8 years ago, I also attended there over the Summer and will attend there again once my internship here is complete. It is also a warm and loving congregation.
2U was vandalized recently because of their stance on abortion access. A sign outside of the church reads, "We support abortion on demand without apology." Vandals broke the glass on the sign, as well as a stained-glass window of the church building itself. A neighbor caught the act on video, and the vandals can be heard saying, "That'll send a message."
It is unfortunate that these individuals felt the need to express their views in this manner. It can be disturbing and scary for people to be the recipient of this kind of act, but 2U is clear that the church will not be silenced. This coming Sunday, on September 4th, there will be a reproductive rights rally outside of 2U (656 W Barry, not too far from our church) at noon. This is an opportunity to support the overall cause, as well as a chance to show solidarity with the 2U congregation. If you attend Broadway's Sunday service on the 4th, there will be a group of people walking from our building to 2U's rally after the service. If you are not attending our service, you can meet us at 2U!
In my column next week, I will be sharing with you about plans at Broadway for the coming school year. I believe it's going to be quite an exciting year!
Meanwhile, be blessed! Feel free, as always, to reach out to me to chat or to suggest a time you might like to get together with me for lunch or coffee.
I look forward to seeing you very soon!
